Audi"s factory in Brussels is facing a significant transformation as the production of the Q8 e-tron model is set to end by February 28, leading to the closure of the plant and the layoff of approximately 3,000 employees.
An agreement has been reached between the workers and management on a "social plan" aimed at providing suitable solutions for all parties involved.
According to the company, the plan includes, in addition to the voluntary bonus previously announced, a range of additional support measures for all employees.
These measures include special provisions for workers over the age of sixty, as well as training and reemployment services.
The bonus provided to employees will be linked to their length of service and will be in addition to the legally required end-of-service benefits.
Audi confirmed that the total value of these bonuses will exceed double what employees are entitled to under the law.
Thomas Bögus, CEO of Audi in Brussels, expressed his satisfaction with reaching a fair settlement despite the difficult negotiations, noting that all parties focused on the employees" best interests.
In a related context, reports from the Financial Times indicated that Audi may allow Chinese car companies to utilize its excess production capacity.
David Powels, CEO of Volkswagen, affirmed the company"s openness to discussing any topic with any partner, which could lead to the production of Chinese electric vehicles in Volkswagen"s factories in Germany.
