A recent study conducted by J.D. Power revealed that electric vehicle (EV) owners in the United States express a high level of satisfaction with their vehicles, with the BMW iX topping the list of the best electric models. Despite an 11% decline in sales last year, with only 15,383 units sold, this versatile electric vehicle managed to win the trust of its owners, outperforming many of the more popular electric cars in terms of overall satisfaction.
The study, titled the "2025 U.S. Electric Vehicle Ownership Study," evaluated vehicles based on several key criteria, including battery range, cost of ownership, driving enjoyment, range accuracy, access to public charging, ease of home charging, design, safety and technology features, service experience, and overall quality and reliability. The study gathered feedback from 6,164 owners of 2024 and 2025 model year electric and hybrid vehicles.
The BMW iX scored 790 out of 1,000 points, securing the top spot in the luxury electric vehicle category, followed by the BMW i4 with 783 points. The Rivian R1S came next with 770 points, the Tesla Model 3 with 767 points, and the Polestar 2 with 764 points. The average score for luxury electric vehicles was 756 points, with the Tesla Model Y (749 points), Audi Q8 e-tron (722 points), and Cadillac Lyriq (717 points) falling below this average.
The study also noted that 69% of first-time electric vehicle owners received some form of training or education from dealers or manufacturers, though there is room for improvement in these efforts to enhance owner satisfaction. Notably, 94% of electric vehicle owners expressed their intention to purchase another electric vehicle as their next car, reflecting their strong commitment to this type of vehicle.
